This chapter suggested very specific techniques to write a
blog. It also discussed ways to use
blogs as an assessment tool.
Blog posts should be short.
They should include relevant links.
They could include pictures and quotes but, for the classroom, I would
put them in with well-defined criteria such as being content specific.
I think it would be a great place to post homework
assignments and relevant links. I would
challenge the students to find additional links that would be helpful and post
those too. This would help to get
students reading the blog and hopefully respond to posts. Eventually, they could write the posts
themselves though I would have the final say.
High school students are very familiar with using
technology, but I find they are pretty naive about their own safety. The book suggested that everyone has proper permission. Notify parents and administration to make certain that
everyone is on-board. Also, use only
first names or pseudonyms (of course pseudonyms would have to be examined) so
there would be no personal identification.
Here’s a link that may help: support.google.com/blogger/?hl=en. They provide tutorials in using
blogs appropriately.
Overall, this chapter was a helpful resource. I used this chapter for the examples and for
the exact manner to create posts.
